South Sulawesi Governor Meets Saudi Ambassador, Hopes Middle East Conflict Ends
South Sulawesi Governor Andi Sudirman Sulaiman met with Saudi Arabia’s Ambassador to Indonesia, Faisal Abdullah Al Amoudi, in Jakarta. During the meeting, Andi expressed hope that the conflict in the Middle East would end soon and that Saudi Arabia’s security would be maintained.
“We conducted a courtesy visit with Saudi Ambassador Faisal Abdullah Al Amoudi and had the opportunity to discuss the Middle East war,” said Andi in a written statement on Thursday, 12 March 2026.
Beyond serving as a courtesy exchange, the meeting also addressed the ongoing conflict situation in the Middle East, which is currently a focus of global attention. Andi believes that warfare will only cause losses for all parties involved.
“On principle, we are calling on all parties to exercise restraint and cease fighting. Wider escalation could bring about losses for everyone,” he said.
He believed that the continuing conflict impacts not only geopolitical aspects but also causes suffering for civilians. According to him, many Muslims performing worship during Ramadan are also affected by the conflict.
“Many Muslim brothers and sisters performing Ramadan worship are affected. This causes material losses, economic impacts, and loss of life among all parties,” he said.
He also highlighted the importance of maintaining Saudi Arabia’s security, particularly during Ramadan, which marks the peak season for pilgrims visiting the two holy cities of Mecca and Medina.
“This is Ramadan, the peak time for pilgrims worshipping in the two Holy Cities of Mecca and Medina. On behalf of the South Sulawesi Provincial Government, we urge all parties in the Middle East conflict to maintain Saudi Arabia’s security,” he explained.
He added that many South Sulawesi residents are currently performing pilgrimage in the Holy Land. Therefore, security and the sanctity of worship remain top priorities.
“Many of our residents are currently performing pilgrimage. We want to ensure their security, the sanctity of their worship, and their safety are maintained,” he added.
He also called on all elements of society to participate in spreading messages of peace and encouraging peaceful resolution of the conflict.
“We all have a responsibility to play a role in spreading this message of peace,” he concluded.
