Makassar (ANTARA) - South Sulawesi Governor Andi Sudirman Sulaiman has expressed appreciation for the commitment of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), particularly the Sultan Hasanuddin Air Force Base, in supporting the increase of sugarcane production in the province.

“Of course, appreciation goes to the TNI ranks who have gone beyond the call of duty to support President Prabowo’s programme in the context of national food security,” he said while attending the TNI Grand Harvest event in Massamaturu Village, Takalar Regency, on Friday.

Governor Sudirman noted that South Sulawesi is a sugarcane-producing region, with Takalar and Bone Regencies playing a role in the development of national sugarcane areas.

“We express our deepest gratitude to President Prabowo Subianto, through the Ministry of Agriculture, in collaboration with the TNI, especially the Air Force, for providing strong assistance to achieve food self-sufficiency, particularly in sugarcane production,” he stated.

Takalar Regency is one of the main centres for national sugarcane area development in South Sulawesi, supported by the neighbouring regencies of Gowa and Jeneponto. Meanwhile, Bone Regency also holds a strategic role as a sugarcane development centre, supported by two sugar factories.

Prior to the event, Governor Andi Sudirman, along with the Commander of Sultan Hasanuddin Air Force Base, Air Commodore Vincentius Endy Hadi Putra, the Regent of Jeneponto, the Deputy Regent of Takalar, and local farmers, participated in a virtual grand harvest ceremony. The grand harvest was held simultaneously across 43 locations in Indonesia, specifically for the sugarcane commodity, and was led directly by President Prabowo Subianto from Abdulrachman Saleh Air Force Base in Malang, East Java.
