South Sulawesi has become the first province in Indonesia to carry out the Launch of the 2026 Economic Census held by the Statistics Indonesia (BPS RI).

Head of BPS RI Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti in Makassar on Wednesday expressed appreciation to the South Sulawesi Provincial Government, which was deemed highly enthusiastic in supporting the implementation of the 2026 Economic Census.

“We appreciate the Governor for being very enthusiastic in bringing together the regional heads. Let us work together to make this Economic Census a success,” she stated whilst opening the 2026 South Sulawesi Province Economic Census Launch at the Governor’s Office.

“This census is a complete and comprehensive data collection without exception. It will cover business sectors, economic activities, up to households to capture the economic dynamics occurring in the community,” she continued.

According to her, the successful implementation of the 2026 Economic Census will provide significant benefits for the region, particularly in the formulation of more targeted development policies.

“If this is successful, regional heads will gain extraordinary advantages because the data produced will serve as the basis for more precise policies,” she said.

Meanwhile, South Sulawesi Governor Andi Sudirman Sulaiman stated that the implementation of this Economic Census is very important as it is the first in Indonesia within the national preparation series.

He also emphasised the need for more detailed economic mapping, including the types of community enterprises, business actors, and involvement in cooperatives and other economic activities.

“We need a more detailed mapping of the economy, including the types of community enterprises and involvement in cooperatives. We also request guidance from the Head of BPS so that we can understand this implementation more deeply,” he stated.

The Governor also appreciated the spirit of the BPS ranks in carrying out data collection and invited all parties to ensure the data collected is truly accurate and beneficial for regional and national development.

“Ensure that the data collected will provide benefits for all of us. Let us make the 2026 Economic Census a success,” he concluded.
