South Papua Governor Requests Dukcapil Office to Register OAP Population
Jayapura (ANTARA) - South Papua Governor Apolo Safanpo has requested the local Population and Civil Registration Office (Dukcapil) and Community Empowerment Office to conduct a population registration drive, particularly for indigenous Papuans (OAP) in the region. “We request that the Dukcapil Office immediately re-register the OAP population in this area, including all those working in every company,” he stated in a press release received in Jayapura on Thursday. “Because most employees working in companies in South Papua have not yet been registered, this also impacts the regional budget (APBD),” he added. He explained that one of the indicators used by the Ministry of Finance for calculating and balancing the APBD is the population size, in addition to the area. “The population size determines the amount of the General Allocation Fund (DAU) in the region, including South Papua,” he said. He further noted that with valid and accurate data prepared, the South Papua APBD is expected to increase. He hopes that coordination between the Dukcapil Office and related agencies will continue to be enhanced to accelerate the population registration, especially for OAP. He stated that besides impacting the increase in APBD, the population figure also affects the political sphere, such as the number of seats in the House of Representatives (DPR RI), provincial DPR, and regency/city DPR.
