South OKU BPBD Constructs Temporary Bridge at Natural Disaster Site
Muaradua (ANTARA) - The South Ogan Komering Ulu (OKU) Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) in South Sumatra is constructing a temporary bridge after the Teriti Major Bridge, connecting Teluk Agung Village and Air Baru, was severed by a river overflow on Monday (11/5) night.
Heri Pramono, Head of the Emergency and Logistics Division of South OKU BPBD, contacted from Baturaja on Wednesday, stated that the strong river current struck the foundation of the bridge connecting Teluk Agung Village and Pulau Duku in Mekakau Ilir Sub-district, causing it to break completely.
Additionally, the Teriti Major Bridge connecting Teluk Agung Village and Air Baru in the same sub-district has also broken, rendering it impassable for two-wheeled and four-wheeled vehicles.
“The impact of these two bridges being severed has disrupted community activities,” he said.
“The construction of this temporary bridge is while awaiting permanent repairs by the relevant department,” he explained.
BPBD, together with the South OKU Public Works and Spatial Planning Department (PUTR), has also conducted an inventory of the bridge damage levels and taken steps for long-term handling.
He also advised the public to temporarily avoid approaching the damaged bridge locations or riverbanks to prevent unwanted incidents.
“We urge the public to remain cautious and not force crossings at the affected locations to anticipate unwanted incidents,” he emphasised.
