South Lampung Regent Urges Residents to Avoid Anak Krakatau After Eruption

South Lampung (Lamsel) Regent Radityo Egi Pratama has urged residents to stay away from the Mount Anak Krakatau (GAK) area following an eruption. The volcano’s activity status has now been raised to Level III (Siaga).

Egi stressed that the public must comply with the recommendations issued by the Centre for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG), which prohibit any activity within a radius of 3 to 5 kilometres from the active crater of Mount Anak Krakatau.

“This is our concern. The status is now Level III, or Siaga. According to the recommendation, no activity is allowed within a 3 to 5 kilometre radius of the active crater. Today we are also continuing to monitor the development of Mount Anak Krakatau’s condition,” said Egi.

Egi stated that the South Lampung Regency Government (Pemkab) is continuously coordinating and monitoring the development of Mount Anak Krakatau’s volcanic activity. This step is being taken to anticipate potential risks that could threaten public safety.

He also reminded residents not to recklessly enter the area designated as a danger zone. Safety, he said, must be the primary consideration while the volcano’s volcanic activity remains high.

“We urge fishermen and parties operating open trip tours to the area to temporarily refrain from approaching the Mount Anak Krakatau area. This is for the sake of everyone’s safety to prevent undesirable incidents,” said Egi.
