Seoul (ANTARA) - South Korea’s online shopping increased by 13.3% year-on-year to 25.58 trillion won (1 won = Rp11.73) or approximately $17.4 billion (1 US dollar = Rp17,378) in March 2026. This marks the highest level since related data began to be collected in 2017. Online sales of cars and car accessories skyrocketed by 109.9% amid surging online purchases of models from US automaker Tesla. Online demand for mobile devices surged by 107.5%, while demand for travel and transportation services, computers and peripherals, cosmetics, baby and child products, and fashion products and accessories recorded double-digit increases. Online sales of food and beverages, food delivery services, clothing, and agricultural, livestock, and fishery products posted single-digit growth, while online transactions for electronic coupon (e-coupon) services rose 10.7% amid a strengthening trend of gifting items like coffee and cakes via e-coupons. Spending via smartphones, tablets, and other mobile devices grew 11.6% year-on-year to 19.41 trillion won or approximately $13.2 billion in March 2026, accounting for 75.9% of total online spending.
