South Korean Tourist Raped in Gili Leading to Allegations of Prosecutors Extorting Sub-district Head and Contractor
Several legal incidents in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) and East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) have captured public attention over the past week. From the alleged rape case involving a foreign tourist in Gili Trawangan to scrutiny of law enforcement officers suspected of abusing their authority.
The North Lombok Police (Polres Lombok Utara) arrested a South Korean man with the initials WK (22) on suspicion of raping a fellow citizen. Meanwhile, the NTB High Prosecutor’s Office (Kejati NTB) is strengthening evidence in the alleged extortion case involving three prosecutors against the Pajo Sub-district Head in Dompu.
In addition, similar practices have emerged in the trial of a school project corruption case in Kupang. Two prosecutors are said to have received fund transfers from the defendant in that case.
South Korean Tourist Raped in Gili Trawangan
The North Lombok Police Resort arrested a South Korean man with the initials WK. The 22-year-old man is suspected of raping a woman in Gili Trawangan, North Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB).
“The victim and the perpetrator are both from South Korea,” revealed the Head of Criminal Investigation at Polres Lombok Utara, Iptu I Komang Wilandra, on Monday (27/4/2026).
Komang explained that the victim and the perpetrator had no special relationship and did not know each other beforehand. They only met while on holiday in Gili Trawangan.
“They happen to be from South Korea. They met in Gili Trawangan,” Komang added.
The rape case occurred in the early hours of Saturday (11/4/2026) after a party. As the victim returned to her accommodation at Laguna Gili Beach Resort in Gili Trawangan, the perpetrator followed her to her room.
“After the night party, the perpetrator went looking for the victim in her room. The victim was then assaulted,” he stated.
The victim subsequently reported the incident to Polres Lombok Utara. Following an investigation, the police apprehended the perpetrator on Wednesday (22/4) as he was about to return to his country via Ngurah Rai Airport in Bali.
“Yes (he was arrested while trying to return to his country),” Komang said.
WK has now been designated as a suspect and is being detained at Polres Lombok Utara.
“He has been designated as a suspect and is detained,” he said.
The police have charged the perpetrator under Article 6 letter b of Law No. 12 of 2022 on Sexual Violence Crimes and/or Article 473 paragraphs (1) and (3) letter a of Law No. 1 of 2023.
“The suspect faces a maximum prison sentence of 12 years and a fine of up to Rp 300 million,” he concluded.
The police have also coordinated with the South Korean Embassy in handling the case.
Allegations of Prosecutors Extorting Dompu Sub-district Head
The Supervision Division of the NTB High Prosecutor’s Office is strengthening evidence in the case of alleged extortion against Pajo Sub-district Head Imran in Dompu.
“We are still delving into everything. We are indeed in the evidence strengthening phase,” said the Assistant for Supervision (Aswas) of Kejati NTB, I Wayan Eka Widdyara, on Tuesday (28/4/2026).
The three prosecutors allegedly involved are the Head of Intelligence Section with initials J, the Head of General Criminal Section with initials C, and the former Head of Special Criminal Section with initials IS. They are said to have extorted Imran while serving at the Dompu District Prosecutor’s Office.
The handling of this case has entered the case inspection stage. Kejati NTB has obtained a confession from Imran, who admitted to handing over money.
“Indeed, there is a giver. The one who provided it, we make a witness, that is our evidence. The giver indeed admits it,” he stated.
In addition, evidence of the money handover has been secured.
“Yes, there is (evidence of money handover). If there were no evidence, I wouldn’t dare to escalate it to case inspection,” he said.
However, Eka described the case as more inclined towards an ethical violation.
“This is actually not extortion. Meaning, there was a deal between both parties,” he said.
Previously, Imran claimed he was asked for Rp 30 million by one of the prosecutors during the legal process of an assault case involving him.
“I had no initiative to give money to the prosecutor’s office, but Mrs IS was the one who called us to hand over Rp 30 million in this room,” Imran revealed.
Prosecutors Allegedly Extorting Contractor in Kupang
Allegations of extortion also surfaced in the trial of a school project corruption case in Kupang. Two prosecutors are said to have received money from the defendant Hironimus Sonbay alias Roni.
The two are Ridwan Sujana Angsar and Noven Verderikus Bulan.
The allegations were revealed in the reading of the plea note by Roni’s lawyer, Fransisco Bessie, at the Kupang Corruption Court, on Tuesday (28/4/2026).
“From the start, this case was too forced because the defendant had already deposited a lot of money to rogue prosecutors,” Fransisco said.
Fransisco revealed that Ridwan is said to have received Rp 140 million in stages. In addition, the defendant was asked to hand over an additional Rp 50 million.
Besides Ridwan, Noven Bulan is also alleged to have received around Rp 175 million.
“So all that evidence has been officially submitted on 21 April 2026 during the trial,” Fransisco stated.
In the indictment, Roni is accused of corruption in the 2021 fiscal year school rehabilitation and renovation project in Kupang City and Regency.
The prosecutors stated that the defendant committed unlawful acts from the planning stage to the budget disbursement of the project.
“After the appointment, the defendant directed the witness to follow the tender,” the prosecutor said.
The defendant also allegedly diverted work through subcontracts that did not comply with regulations and falsified signatures for budget disbursement.
“The falsification of signatures was done without the knowledge of the person concerned,” the prosecutor emphasised.
