South Korea reports North Korea launches missiles into Yellow Sea

Moscow (ANTARA) - North Korea launched an unidentified projectile towards the Yellow Sea, Yonhap reported on Tuesday, citing the South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff. The South Korean military is currently analysing the details of the incident, according to the report. No further information was provided. Later that same day, the South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff stated that the military detected the launch of multiple missiles towards the Yellow Sea. ‘At approximately 13:00 local time (04:00 GMT/11:00 WIB) on May 26, South Korean military authorities detected the launch of multiple missiles, including short-range ballistic missiles, from Chongju in North Korea’s North Pyongan Province towards the Yellow Sea,’ according to the Joint Chiefs of Staff statement. The South Korean military has heightened surveillance and combat readiness in anticipation of further launches, the statement added. South Korea, the United States, and Japan are also reportedly sharing information regarding the launches. Yonhap reported that the launch marked North Korea’s first ballistic missile test in 37 days and the eighth of the year so far.
