South Korea considers Trump's request to send ships to Strait of Hormuz
Seoul — South Korea’s presidential office stated on Sunday (15 March) that it will carefully consider President Donald Trump’s request to send ships to the Strait of Hormuz.
An official at the office said South Korea was reviewing Trump’s social media posts about the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial oil shipping route in the Persian Gulf region that Iran has closed during its conflict with the United States and Israel.
On Saturday, Trump called on South Korea and other affected nations to send vessels to ensure the strait remains “open and safe” amid growing concerns over global oil shipments.
Trump also named China, France, Japan and the United Kingdom as nations affected by Iran’s “unilateral restrictions” on the strait.
“The security of international maritime routes and freedom of navigation align with the interests of all nations and are protected by international law,” the official said.
“Based on this, we hope that the global maritime logistics network returns to normal soon,” the official added.
