South Kalimantan's Sasirangan and Lintau Weaving Reimagined as Contemporary Fashion
Traditional wastra fabric of the Banjar people of South Kalimantan, sasirangan, has been designed into modern-style clothing, embellished with floral motif embroidery. There is also velvet fabric enriched with three-dimensional embroidery, crystals, sequins, and handcrafted details.
Each garment is designed with an elegant silhouette and a couture touch that presents a majestic yet feminine impression.
In addition, presenting a modern interpretation of classic styles, the garments are made by combining textured tweed material, lace details, and clean tailoring in elegant feminine silhouettes. This collection offers a refined, versatile, and classy look for confident women on every occasion.
The entire collection was designed by local designer Ayu Dyah Andari under the title Puspa: Aksara Hati. Puspa is inspired by the beauty and meaning of three iconic Indonesian flowers: the Rafflesia, which symbolises authority; the Jasmine, which represents gentleness; and the Orchid, which reflects elegance and charisma.
There are also garments made from a combination of batik and Lintau weaving originating from Tanah Datar Regency, West Sumatra. The garments were created by the brand Khanaan under the title Khanaan Heritage, a collection that represents the beauty of the archipelago’s textile heritage in contemporary modest fashion.
“For us, heritage is not merely something that is inherited, but something that continues to be brought to life. Through the Khanaan Heritage collection, we want to show that Indonesian wastra can be presented in a modern, elegant design language that still carries meaning,” said the Khanaan creative team in a press statement on Wednesday (19/8).
The entire fashion collection was showcased at the Indonesia Fashion Aesthetic (IFA) Archipelago South Kalimantan 2026 event held on 11 August 2026 at the Grand Maya by Artotel Hotel, Banjarbaru, South Kalimantan.
The IFA Archipelago South Kalimantan 2026 event was held for the first time. IFA Archipelago is a signature event that brings the fashion and beauty-aesthetics ecosystem to various cities and provinces in Indonesia.
Banjarbaru was chosen as the first city to support the growth of the regional creative industry while introducing the cultural richness of South Kalimantan, particularly Sasirangan wastra.
IFA is a platform that brings together business actors and professionals from the fashion and beauty-aesthetics sectors in one collaborative ecosystem. Since it was first held in Jakarta in 2024, IFA has presented a series of fashion shows, exhibitions, and award ceremonies.
“Since it was first held, IFA has received a positive response from various regions. We believe that every region and province has cultural strength, creativity, and economic potential that deserves a national-scale stage,” explained Dian Komalasary, Founder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of IFA.
“This enthusiasm is a motivation for us to continue presenting a platform that showcases the best works of the nation’s children so that it can encourage the sustainable growth of Indonesia’s creative industry,” she continued.
The IFA Archipelago South Kalimantan fashion show presented modest fashion collections from ViviZubedi, Si.Se.Sa, Ayu Dyah Andari, Lia Soraya, Donna Prive, Arabellescarf, Dekranasda of South Kalimantan Province, Khanaan, Motif Hawa, and Buttonscarves.
Over the five days of the event, IFW 2026 will showcase hundreds of collections from designers, fashion labels, Dekranasda, educational institutions, and MSMEs from the regions.
