South Kalimantan Regional Police Deploy Escort Unit for Virgo Ship Victims' Remains
The South Kalimantan Regional Police have deployed a corpse escort unit for the victims of the Virgo Transport 8 ship, who are being evacuated via land following the discovery of bodies in Central Kalimantan.
“This unit is a joint force comprising the Directorate of Traffic and Samapta, as well as the Batola and Banjarmasin City Police. Members are on standby at the border between South Kalimantan and Central Kalimantan,” stated the Head of Public Relations for the South Kalimantan Regional Police, Kombes Pol Nur Khamid, in Banjarmasin on Saturday night.
He explained that personnel readiness is essential due to the high number of bodies discovered from the Virgo ship in Central Kalimantan.
As of today, seven bodies were found in Central Kalimantan waters: four in Sukamara Regency, two in Seruyan Regency, and one in West Kotawaringin Regency. These remains are being transported to Banjarmasin, destined for the Bhayangkara Hospital.
“Our hope is that with this optimal escort, the journey of the vehicles carrying the remains can proceed smoothly without any obstacles,” added Khamid.
By the 14th day of the SAR operation, a total of 172 victims have been accounted for, consisting of 108 survivors and 64 deceased, while 71 victims remain missing and are still being searched for.
