South Kalimantan Posts IDR 16.48 Trillion Trade Surplus Through May 2026

The Regional Office of the Directorate General of Treasury for South Kalimantan (DJPb Kalsel) recorded that the international trade balance in the province experienced a surplus of approximately Rp16.48 trillion up to May 2026, supported by consistently high and expansive exports.

The Head of the DJPb Kalsel Regional Office, Catur Ariyanto Widodo, stated in Banjarmasin on Thursday that the trade surplus indicates that South Kalimantan’s external sector performance remains strong amidst global economic dynamics and serves as a primary pillar of regional economic activity.

“The trade surplus in May 2026 grew by 6.19 per cent compared to the same period the previous year and increased by 14.45 per cent compared to April 2026. This achievement reflects that foreign trade remained expansive throughout the beginning of the year,” he said.

He explained that South Kalimantan’s export performance reached approximately Rp19.81 trillion, representing a 7.7 per cent increase compared to the same period last year.

On the other hand, South Kalimantan’s import performance also increased by 16.1 per cent annually, but only recorded approximately Rp3.33 trillion. The rise in imports was primarily influenced by the increased value of petroleum oil imports to meet the needs of the industrial sector and economic activities.

In line with the positive trade performance, Catur noted that South Kalimantan’s economy grew by 5.67 per cent in the first quarter of 2026 compared to the same period the previous year.
