“This is of course a local wisdom that we continue to uphold, where religious scholars and teachers are frequently heeded by the community in their every counsel,” said the Police Chief during a Readiness Parade aimed at maintaining public order throughout the holy month of Ramadan, held at the South Kalimantan Regional Police headquarters compound in Banjarbaru on Monday.

Yudha said the people of South Kalimantan, as a religious region with a Muslim majority, are highly observant of what the Islamic scholars convey.

He therefore hoped that public order messages could be woven into every sermon so that congregations would comply and abide by them for the common good.

The readiness parade was intended to demonstrate that the South Kalimantan Regional Police, together with the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) and other agencies, stand ready to secure the situation during Ramadan against security disturbances and criminal acts.

The Police Chief explained that a number of vulnerabilities need to be anticipated, including brawls between groups of youths and illegal street racing, which continue to occur.

“Let us keep this region stable. Do not allow criminal acts to disturb the devotion of worshippers,” he said.

South Kalimantan Regional Legislative Council (DPRD) Chairman Supian HK expressed appreciation for the swift action of the South Kalimantan Regional Police together with the TNI in keeping the Ramadan situation safe, peaceful and tranquil.

“On behalf of the people of South Kalimantan, we are deeply grateful and will always support the duties of the TNI and Police in safeguarding this region to be the safest in Indonesia,” he said.

“The TNI and Police will always be present among the community, closing any gaps for criminal acts and security disturbances in any form whatsoever,” he affirmed.
