Tabalong, South Kalimantan (ANTARA) - The South Kalimantan Provincial Forestry Service (Dishut Kalsel) verified the location of agroforestry activities within the Forest and Other Land Use (FOLU) Net Sink 2030 programme in a protected forest area of Lano Village, Tabalong Regency.

Saidah Hayati, Head of the Social Forestry Section in the Outreach and Community Empowerment (PPM) Division of Dishut Kalsel, said the activity aims to ensure site suitability as well as collect data on land area proposed under the FOLU Net Sink programme categories NC 3 and NC 4.

“Verification was carried out in the Tabalong Forest Management Unit (KPH) area in Lano Village, which is within a protected forest area with social forestry rights under the Desa Lano Village Forest scheme managed by the local community,” she said in Tabalong on Friday.

During the activity, Saidah stated, the team conducted on-site checks to ensure the proposed location meets the criteria of the FOLU Net Sink 2030 programme, including potential for rehabilitating the area and the community’s readiness to manage the land through an agroforestry pattern.

“Based on the initial on-site checks, the area planned for the agroforestry activities is estimated to be around 90 hectares as part of efforts to rehabilitate the forest area while also sustainably increasing land productivity,” she said.

Saidah noted that field verification is an important stage before drafting the project proposal for FOLU Net Sink 2030.

She said the data obtained through on-site measurement and identification will form the basis for preparing the project proposal documents to be submitted to the Ministry of Environment and Forestry.

She added that the development of agroforestry under the FOLU Net Sink scheme is not only focused on restoring forest ecosystem functions but also opens up opportunities for communities to utilise the area productively through environmentally friendly planting methods.

“We hope that the Desa Lano’s FOLU Net Sink project proposals for NC 3 and NC 4 categories will be accepted by the Ministry of Environment and Forestry so that the implementation of agroforestry covering around 90 hectares can proceed and benefit forest conservation as well as community welfare,” Saidah said.
