South Kalimantan Deems WFH Ineffective, Opts Not to Implement It
The Provincial Government of South Kalimantan has confirmed that it will not implement Work From Home (WFH) policies for Civil Servants (ASN) or non-ASN, as it is deemed ineffective and could impact employee performance.
This was affirmed by the Governor of South Kalimantan, Muhidin, on the sidelines of the Musrenbang for the Preparation of the 2026 RKPD across South Kalimantan, in Banjarbaru on Tuesday (7/4). According to Muhidin, the current conditions in South Kalimantan are considered under control, so there is no urgency to enforce WFH policies.
Additionally, implementing WFH could create inappropriate perceptions among employees, especially without optimal supervision. The WFH policy might be underutilised and lead to a decline in employee performance.
“We emphasise that there is no WFH in South Kalimantan. If implemented, the policy could be seen as a holiday, making it prone to abuse. Direct work execution in the office remains the best option at this time,” he stated.
Muhidin explained that the elimination of WFH is also related to effectiveness and the optimisation of planned budgets. On the other hand, the South Kalimantan Provincial Government continues to strive to maintain the productivity and competency development of ASN through various planned activities. One of them is filling work time with training and coordinative activities.
Meanwhile, local governments in regencies and cities in South Kalimantan have responded variably to the central government’s WFH policy. The Banjarbaru City Government and Barito Kuala Regency implement WFH policies, while the Banjarmasin City Government, Banjar Regency, and others have not yet decided whether to adopt the WFH policy.
