As Lebaran 2026 mudik approaches, the Karawang Police Traffic Unit conducted checks on the readiness of the main mudik routes as well as alternative routes in Karawang Regency. One of the checks focused on the Jakarta–Cikampek II Toll Road (Japek II), which will be used on a situational basis, particularly during the mudik and balik (homecoming) periods.

‘This check is being done to ensure the readiness of the route that will be used by travellers, while also anticipating potential congestion on the main route,’ said Karawang Police Public Relations Head Ipda Cep Wildan on Saturday, 7 March.

He said Japek II Toll Road is prepared as an alternative route to help relieve congestion on mudik traffic heading towards Bandung and on balik traffic from Bandung to Jakarta.

‘Japek II Toll Road will be used situationally, especially during mudik and balik. If vehicles travelling from Jakarta towards Bandung, or later balik from Bandung towards Jakarta, become severely congested, traffic will be diverted to enter Japek II to relieve congestion on the main route,’ Ipda Cep Wildan said.

In the mudik diversion scheme, if the main Jakarta–Cikampek mudik route experiences congestion, vehicles from Jakarta will be directed to enter via Bojongmangu DeltaMas Toll Gate, then travellers will traverse Japek II and exit at Sadang Cipularang.

A similar scheme will be applied for balik (return). If the Cipularang direction toward Jakarta is heavily congested, balik traffic will be directed to the Sadang interchange, travel via Japek II and exit at the Setu Toll Gate in Bekasi Regency.

‘This traffic redirection is expected to help reduce congestion on the Jakarta–Cikampek toll road, which every year is a favourite route for travellers during Lebaran balik,’ he said.

In addition to checking toll routes, the Karawang Police Traffic Unit continues to coordinate with relevant parties to ensure the readiness of facilities and infrastructure supporting mudik, including traffic signs, service posts, and traffic management to be implemented during the mudik and balik Lebaran 2026.

The Karawang Police urge travellers to comply with traffic rules, keep their vehicles in good condition, and follow officers’ directions on the ground to ensure a smooth and safe journey during mudik. (H-3)
