South Jakarta's Taman Puring to be transformed into an accessible park
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Taman Puring in Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta, has been proposed to be turned into a park specifically friendly to people with disabilities. The proposal was conveyed by the Mayor of South Jakarta, M Anwar, to the Governor of DKI Jakarta, Pramono Anung, during the inauguration of the Kebayoran Baru District Office on Tuesday, 19 May 2026. Anwar said the former Taman Puring site, which is currently undergoing redevelopment, could be used as green open space that is more beneficial for all residents, including people with disabilities. At present, the area’s redevelopment has begun. The traders who previously operated in the Taman Puring area are said to have moved voluntarily and dismantled their stalls themselves. ‘I report that last night I had already carried out the redevelopment on the former Taman Puring. The traders, praise be to God, moved of their own accord and dismantled themselves. Today we are starting to level it, God willing we will restore its function as a park of around 3,000 square metres,’ Anwar said. In response, Pramono approved the proposal. He urged that the plan be processed promptly so construction can begin quickly. ‘When the Mayor of South Jakarta told me to redeploy Taman Puring, I offered support and approved it. And indeed I am not a showman,’ Pramono said. Pramono also asked his aides to follow up the proposal promptly. He hoped the park could be built soon and become a new facility for residents. ‘I request that the letter be prepared quickly so that we can proceed to build a new park facility about 3,000 square metres in South Jakarta,’ he said. Under this plan, the government hopes that Taman Puring can be transformed into a more comfortable, open public space that can be used by everyone, including people with disabilities.
