There is a ‘hidden gem’ in Jagakarsa, South Jakarta, where residents can relax and exercise. The location is called Embung Pemuda, and access to it requires passing through a public cemetery (TPU).

Observations by detikcom at the site on Sunday (19/7/2026) showed that entry to Embung Pemuda goes through the Srengseng Sawah 2 public cemetery. The cemetery was previously used to bury COVID-19 victims.

Embung Pemuda can be reached by car or motorbike. However, for cars, the space available for parking is not extensive.

Most visitors come to sit and relax while chatting with friends or family. Some can be seen fishing or jogging in the area.

Children who come to the site can be seen running around and playing. Some play football or fly kites.

One of them is Ferry (55), a visitor who spent his afternoon cycling to the location. Ferry, who lives not far from Embung Pemuda, only recently learned of its existence.

“This is my first time here. We often go to Waduk Brigif, Situ Babakan, and the lake at UI’s urban forest. At UI there’s an urban forest with lots of lakes, and we enjoy sitting by the lakesides,” said Ferry at the location.

Ferry was invited by a friend who discovered the location through social media. In the end, Ferry and two friends cycled together to Embung Pemuda.

Overall, Ferry considered the atmosphere at Embung Pemuda pleasant and calming. He also appreciated the absence of parking attendants at the location.

“Overall it’s good, excellent. And the good thing is there’s no parking, no charge,” he said.

Another visitor, Abas (32), was also visiting the location for the first time. A resident of the Ragunan area, he came with his wife by motorbike.

“I originally came here because a friend told me about it. He said there was a place to relax, so we finally tried coming here,” said Abas.

Abas and his wife exercised by walking around the area several times. He felt the atmosphere at the location was pleasant for exercise.

“It’s nice, cool. It’s not too crowded either. So walking around for exercise was enjoyable and relaxing,” he said.

The embung was inaugurated by Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung on Tuesday (19/5). At the time, Pramono inaugurated it alongside Embung Jagakarsa.

Construction of Embung Pemuda 1 began in 2024, with landscaping completed in 2025. The embung serves to reduce the potential for flooding in the Srengseng Sawah subdistrict.
