Jakarta (ANTARA) - The South Jakarta Water Resources Sub-District Office (Sudin SDA) is carrying out dredging of the Grogol River and the Jelawe connecting channel (Phb) to tackle flooding in the Jalan Sinabung area, RW 05, Gunung Ward, Kebayoran Baru Sub-District.

“Today we are conducting a follow-up survey at the location to ensure ongoing handling of the puddling,” said the Head of the South Jakarta Sudin SDA, Santo, in Jakarta on Thursday.

Santo explained that puddling reaching approximately 50 centimetres (cm) occurred due to the overflow of the Grogol River and the Jelawe connecting channel (Phb) when heavy-intensity rain hit the area.

He detailed that as a follow-up measure to prevent repeated puddling during rain, his side will carry out dredging of the Grogol River.

In addition, checks are being conducted on the channel wall sections of the Phb, which are suspected of experiencing water seepage into the residential environment.

“We are conducting a comprehensive check, including going directly to the field to ensure whether there is seepage or not. For the dredging of the Grogol River, we are currently seeking access so that heavy equipment can enter the location due to access limitations,” he said.

He added that personnel and various types of pumps have been prepared at several flood-prone points. This is done so that handling can be carried out quickly and effectively.

“All personnel are ready to be deployed, and the pumps have also been checked in good condition and ready for use,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Gunung Ward Head, Elvita Rahmadani Rangkuti, added that when the puddling occurred yesterday, dozens of Orange Troops and Blue Troops were deployed to address the situation, one of which was cleaning the channels of rubbish.

“Alhamdulillah, the handling went well. After the rain stopped, the water also receded quickly. We hope that efforts to maintain environmental cleanliness, especially water channels, can make this area free from puddling,” said Elvita.
