South Jakarta Waste Production Reaches 1,120 Tonnes Per Day During Eid Holiday
The estimated daily waste tonnage during the Eid period is 1,120 tonnes per day,” said Dedy Setiono, Head of the South Jakarta Environmental Sub-Department, when contacted in Jakarta on Wednesday. He stated that the figure refers to the estimated weight data from the waste disposal list during the Eid holiday period from 18 to 24 March 2026. In handling waste each day, the South Jakarta Environmental Sub-Department deploys personnel and vehicles distributed across 10 districts. “We deploy 1,107 sanitation workers and 190 waste transport trucks to the Bantargebang Integrated Waste Processing Site (TPST) per day,” Dedy said. After the waste is collected, he added, they then sort between waste that can be sent to the waste bank or utilised as compost. For organic waste, it can be utilised in the composting and maggot processes. Then, the residue is collected at temporary disposal sites (TPS), and subsequently disposed of at the Bantargebang Final Disposal Site (TPA). In addition, the public is expected to consistently reduce waste production and sort the waste they produce, in accordance with Governor’s Regulation No. 77 of 2020 on Waste Management in Community Units. Based on data from the DKI Jakarta Environmental Agency in 2025, the waste volume in Jakarta reaches an average of more than 7,900 tonnes per day. The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is striving to manage that waste through source reduction and processing at the Bantargebang TPST.
