South Jakarta Transportation Agency Cracks Down on Illegal Parking in Setiabudi
Joint personnel from the South Jakarta Transportation Agency (Sudinhub) and related agencies have cracked down on illegal parking utilising social and public facilities in the Setiabudi District area. “We are carrying out this action firmly but humanely through a persuasive approach, as such violations keep recurring,” said South Jakarta Sudinhub Operational Controller, Ebenezer Lumban Tobing, in Jakarta on Friday. Ebenezer stated that the enforcement was conducted decisively while still prioritising a persuasive approach towards violators. According to him, illegal parking in the area is a recurring violation that requires routine monitoring. During the operation, 15 motorcycles were towed using a crane truck, 12 motorcycles had their tyre valves removed, and one car found parked in a prohibited location was towed. “We imposed sanctions in the form of an official inspection report and a ticket on three conventional taxi units proven to be parked on the road shoulder,” he said. Ebenezer hopes that periodic enforcement at illegal parking hotspots can reduce congestion while improving orderly use of public facilities. “We urge vehicle users to comply with applicable parking regulations. We also hope that area managers will pay attention to the availability of parking spaces so that violations do not occur on the road,” he said. Meanwhile, a local resident, Hertanto (45), appreciated the enforcement action by officers, as illegal parking often causes congestion, especially during lunch hours and commuting times. “Officers need to patrol regularly. Usually, when there is no supervision, vehicles park haphazardly again, causing traffic jams,” said Hertanto.
