South Jakarta Transportation Agency Clears Illegal Parking in Setiabudi, Dozens of Motorcycles Towed
Joint personnel from the South Jakarta Transportation Agency (Sudinhub) and related authorities have carried out an operation to crack down on illegal parking utilising social and public facilities in the Setiabudi district. The measure was taken to reduce traffic congestion and restore the proper function of roads for other users.
Ebenezer Lumban Tobing, Operational Controller for the South Jakarta Transportation Agency, stated that the firm action was necessary because parking violations on road shoulders and pavements in the area are persistently repeated. “We carried out this action firmly, but still humanely through a persuasive approach, because these violations keep recurring,” Ebenezer said in Jakarta on Friday (3/7).
During the operation, officers swept several hotspot locations in Setiabudi and imposed various sanctions on violators. Data from the enforcement action showed that officers secured dozens of vehicles.
Ebenezer stressed that routine monitoring is essential given that the Setiabudi area is a dense hub of activity. He hopes that periodic enforcement will create a deterrent effect while improving order in the use of public facilities.
Beyond penalising violators, the South Jakarta Sudinhub also highlighted the role of building and area managers nearby. Ebenezer urged managers to pay closer attention to the availability of parking spaces for visitors and employees so that vehicles do not spill over onto the roads.
“We urge vehicle users to comply with the applicable parking regulations. We also hope that area managers will pay attention to the availability of parking spaces so that violations on the road do not occur,” he added.
The firm action received support from local residents. Hertanto (45), a local, said that the presence of illegal parking in Setiabudi is a primary trigger for severe congestion, especially during critical hours. “Officers need to patrol regularly. Usually, when there is no supervision, vehicles park haphazardly again, causing traffic jams, especially during lunchtime and rush hours,” said Hertanto.
With this enforcement, it is hoped that traffic flow in the Setiabudi area will become smoother and that the public will be more disciplined in parking their vehicles in designated spaces.
