Jakarta (ANTARA) - The South Jakarta Transport Sub-Department (Sudinhub) carried out a surprise inspection (sidak) on illegal parking by visitors to nightlife venues (THM) along Jalan Gunawarman, Jalan Suryo, and the Senopati area in Kebayoran Baru District. “The inspection was a follow-up to public concerns, particularly from pedestrians using the pavements,” said the Head of the Operational Control Section (Dalops) of South Jakarta Sudinhub, Alfian Michiels, in Jakarta on Thursday. Alfian stated that the inspection targeted road users parking vehicles on pavements or the carriageway. During the inspection, officers found illegal valet services occupying pavement areas and immediately issued warnings to the management. Although there were attempts by the management to delay action citing limited land, South Jakarta Sudinhub personnel acted firmly by moving the guard box and umbrella tents on the pavement. “This is a busy business area with many visitors. However, the parking capacity is only around three to four cars. They use valet services, but vehicles are still found parked illegally using public facilities,” he said. “We request that the guiding block path not be blocked. It is an important facility for access by people with disabilities,” he added. Around 30 combined personnel from the police, TNI, Satpol PP, and other units were present at the inspection. In the future, Satpol PP and Transport Department personnel will continue to be deployed for patrols at illegal parking hotspots. This effort is expected to reduce congestion often caused by the misuse of roads and pavements. “We will also coordinate with relevant units, in this case the Parking Management Unit, so that valet management can be better regulated,” said Alfian. Meanwhile, one resident, Rahmat (53), said that congestion in the Senopati area at night is caused by the high number of visitors to eateries and entertainment venues arriving by private vehicles. He hopes that supervision of illegal parking practices will continue to be increased to create order and smooth traffic in the area. “There are many entertainment venues and restaurants. Visitors mostly come by car, while parking space is limited, so vehicles pile up on the road,” he said.
