South Jakarta Transport Office Tests Bus Roadworthiness at Lebak Bulus Terminal Ahead of Eid Exodus
Jakarta — The Sub-office of Transportation of South Jakarta and the Jagakarsa Motor Vehicle Testing Management Unit (UP PKB) conducted vehicle roadworthiness inspections (ramp checks) at Lebak Bulus Terminal, Pondok Pinang, Kebayoran Lama ahead of the Eid 2026 holiday exodus.
“We have scheduled this ramp check activity with UP PKB Jagakarsa to run from 9 March to 29 March 2026,” said Alfian Michiels, Head of the Road Transport Operations and Traffic Section of the South Jakarta Sub-office of Transportation, in Jakarta on Thursday.
Michiels stated that the ramp checks were conducted to ensure that intercity and inter-provincial buses (AKAP) were roadworthy for transporting holiday travellers to their home towns.
In conducting ramp checks up to the previous day, all eight AKAP buses inspected were found to be unfit for operation and required completion of missing bus components.
According to the inspection results, common deficiencies included lack of fire extinguishers, non-functional seatbelts, retreaded tyres, and emergency exits blocked by passenger seats due to overcrowding.
“Those whose buses are found unfit for operation are instructed not to operate until the regulations have been implemented,” he said.
Meanwhile, Joni Budhi, Head of Lebak Bulus Terminal, added that the inspection team also checked braking systems, lighting and windscreen wipers. This was done given that heavy rain was continuing to fall on Jakarta.
“We always advise bus drivers and operators to prioritise the safety of themselves and their passengers. Therefore, they must also comply with bus component requirements,” said Joni.
