South Jakarta Tourism Office Encourages Community-Based Tourism Destinations

The South Jakarta Tourism and Creative Economy Office (Sudin Parekraf) has stated that training for Tourism Awareness Groups (Pokdarwis), held on 20-21 May 2026, is intended to encourage the development of community-based tourism destinations.

“The Pokdarwis training was attended by 100 participants from Pokdarwis Setu Babakan, Setu Brigif, Kampung Betawi Beksi and Pokdarwis Pasar Minggu,” said Head of the South Jakarta Tourism and Creative Economy Office, Jonie Paulus Rumimper, on Friday.

Jonie explained that the training aims to enhance the community’s capacity to manage destinations independently while opening up creative economy opportunities in the surrounding area.

Participants received guidance and knowledge on developing new tourism destinations according to the potential of each area.

“It is hoped that the training will encourage the emergence of new destinations managed directly by the community through Pokdarwis,” he said.

In addition to strengthening the tourism sector, the development of these destinations is also expected to create business opportunities for local residents through various creative economy activities.

He added that the South Jakarta Parekraf Sub-department will provide further support for the development of Pokdarwis-managed destinations in accordance with the characteristics and themes of each area.

Unlike a target-based approach, the sub-department does not set specific visitor number targets for Pokdarwis.

According to Jonie, the government’s current focus is on creating sustainable alternative destinations that provide direct economic benefits to the community.

“We do not want to burden them with visitor number targets. The most important thing is that the destinations developed can operate sustainably and the community feels the economic impact,” he said.
