South Jakarta to Summon Senopari Valet Operators for Parking Regulation Socialisation

The South Jakarta city government will soon summon valet parking operators in the Senopati area to socialise parking regulations and enforce public order. South Jakarta Mayor Syafrin Liputo stated that he has requested the local transportation agency head to call in the operators and clarify that the applicable rules are long-standing regulations. Syafrin noted that the prohibition on illegal parking is stipulated in Law Number 22 of 2009 on Road Traffic and Transportation. Violators who park carelessly can be charged under Article 287 paragraph (1), which carries a maximum penalty of two months’ imprisonment or a fine of up to Rp500,000. He emphasised that the law has been in place since 2009, with an even earlier version from 1992, and clearly bans parking on roadways and pavements not designated for that purpose. The city administration is currently preparing alternative parking areas to free Senopati from illegally parked vehicles. Syafrin highlighted the importance of parking availability, as Senopati and its surroundings are a bustling centre of economic activity filled with various businesses. He said his team is working with the municipal asset agency to identify potential locations for shared parking facilities in the area. The South Jakarta city government urges residents visiting the area to avoid parking illegally and to use designated parking spots. It also calls on culinary business operators in the area to provide parking spaces to maintain order and prevent vehicles from parking on roads or pavements where it is prohibited.
