South Jakarta tidies up aerial cables on Jalan Pahlawan for aesthetics
The South Jakarta Bina Marga Sub-agency has carried out an operation to tidy up and cut overhead cables on Jalan Pahlawan, Bintaro Urban Village, Pesanggrahan District, to improve the aesthetics of the area. “We are tidying up overhead cables to minimise potential safety hazards for road users and to support more integrated and sustainable utility infrastructure planning,” said Bogi Widiatmaji, Head of the City Utility Infrastructure and Public Street Lighting Section at the South Jakarta Bina Marga Sub-agency, on Tuesday. Bogi stated that the operation aims to enhance road user safety while supporting more orderly and sustainable utility infrastructure. According to him, the cable tidying initiative also aims to create a neater environment and improve the area’s aesthetics. “This effort is undertaken to reduce the clutter of utility networks within the road right-of-way,” he said. Bogi explained that during the activity, officers successfully tidied up 63 overhead cables belonging to 20 telecommunications service providers, with a network length reaching approximately one kilometre. He said the cables that had been cut and cleared were immediately transported to a storage warehouse, ensuring no waste or residual material was left to disturb environmental cleanliness. “The cables that have been tidied up are taken directly to the warehouse so there are no leftover cables strewn about and making the environment messy,” he stated. Bogi urged the public and telecommunications network owners to jointly maintain the tidiness of the environment and comply with applicable regulations regarding the placement of utility networks. “Thank you to all parties who have collaborated in supporting the realisation of a more orderly, safe, and comfortable South Jakarta for all residents,” he said. Meanwhile, a local resident, Raka Adi, welcomed the clean-up activity. Cables that had previously been dangling were once tidied by tying them up, but that condition did not last long and they became messy again. “The clean-up carried out is very good because these cables are not just tied, but are truly cut and tidied up. Hopefully, in the future, the underground cable system will be increasingly optimised so there are no more cables stretching across the road,” he said.
