The South Jakarta Food Security, Marine and Agriculture Agency (Sudin KPKP) sterilised 441 male and female cats during July 2026 in a bid to control the animal population. Irawati Harry Artharini, Head of the Livestock and Animal Health Section at Sudin KPKP South Jakarta, stated on Monday that the initiative also supports efforts to maintain DKI Jakarta as a rabies-free region.

Of the total, 234 were male cats and 207 were female. The sterilisations were carried out at several locations, including the Pancoran Fire and Rescue Service office, House of Tea in Gandaria Selatan, collaborative events for Mampang Prapatan and Jagakarsa sub-districts, and partner veterinary clinics.

Irawati explained that the programme uses the Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) method in cooperation with the Environmental Care Foundation (YPLI), animal lovers, and the Indonesian Veterinary Association (PDHI). She confirmed that the agency is intensifying the sterilisation drive throughout 2026 with a target of 2,500 cats, and encouraged the public to follow their Instagram account, Sudin KPKP Jakarta Selatan, for information on upcoming sessions.
