South Jakarta Residents Shocked to Find Floating Body in Ciliwung River

Residents of Tanjung Barat, South Jakarta (Jaksel), were shocked by the discovery of an unidentified man’s body floating in the Ciliwung River. The discovery of the body is currently being investigated by the police.

“The victim’s identity is Mr X. The location of the discovery is the Ciliwung River,” said Jagakarsa Police Chief Kompol Nurma Dewi to reporters on Wednesday (24 February 2026).

Nurma said the victim was found at 5:00 PM local time this afternoon. The victim was first discovered by residents who were fishing in the area.

“Around 5:00 PM, several people were fishing and saw a body floating in the Ciliwung River. They then reported it to Witness 1 and Witness 2,” she explained.

The victim’s body has now been evacuated to Fatmawati Hospital. The police are still conducting further investigations.

“The body was evacuated from the Ciliwung River by the Jagakarsa Fire Department team, South Jakarta, using a body bag and rope,” she added.
