South Jakarta Prosecutor's Office Transfers Roy Suryo and Tifa Case to East Jakarta District Court

Jakarta - The South Jakarta District Prosecutor’s Office (Kejari) has transferred the case of alleged defamation and character assassination relating to the authenticity of the diploma of Indonesia’s 7th President, Joko Widodo (Jokowi), involving Roy Suryo and Tifauzia Tyassuma (Doctor Tifa), to the East Jakarta District Court (PN Jaktim). “For that reason, the case file and indictment will be transferred to the competent district court as soon as possible,” said Head of the South Jakarta Prosecutor’s Office, Marcelo Bellah, to reporters at the South Jakarta Prosecutor’s Office on Monday. Based on a decision by the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Indonesia, he said, the East Jakarta District Court will examine and decide this case. Subsequently, Roy Suryo and Tifa will also be required to report to the authorities once a week. Meanwhile, the legal counsel for Roy Suryo and Doctor Tifa, Refly Harun, outlined several considerations as to why his clients were not detained by the South Jakarta Prosecutor’s Office. “That our clients have so far complied with the mandatory reporting procedures properly, so the purpose of detention would also be ineffective if applied. Mr. Roy has reported 30 times,” said Refly. Furthermore, they have never ignored an investigator’s summons twice in a row without a valid reason, never provided information inconsistent with the facts during examination, never obstructed the examination process, and, importantly, never attempted to flee. Additionally, they have never attempted to damage or eliminate evidence, which is also important, and have never repeated a criminal act. “Their safety is not threatened by their own consent or request, and they have never influenced witnesses to not tell the true events,” he said.
