Jakarta (ANTARA) - The South Jakarta City Government (Pemkot Jaksel) is preparing a reservoir spanning 2.8 hectares (ha) located on Jalan Rengas, Bintaro, Pesanggrahan, as a measure to anticipate flooding. “In addition to absorption wells, the land owned by the DKI Provincial Government on Jalan Rengas will be utilised as a reservoir,” said the Head of the South Jakarta Water Resources Sub-Department (SDA), Santo, at Danau Cavalio Pesanggrahan, Jakarta, on Sunday. Santo stated that the land will be used as a reservoir to reduce water pooling in the surrounding areas. He explained that the presence of this reservoir is expected to significantly minimise waterlogging in the Swadarma and Kali Keuangan areas of Pesanggrahan. “If this reservoir project is completed, those areas will be greatly assisted (in tackling flooding),” he said. Santo mentioned that dredging of the reservoir is already underway, although there are still administrative obstacles on part of the land. He acknowledged that around 4,000 square metres (m²) of the total 2.8 hectares is still in the process of completing its administration. “While waiting for that land to be cleared, we have already started dredging on the edge of the land,” said Santo. He hopes that the administrative land issues can be resolved soon so that the reservoir construction can proceed more optimally. Meanwhile, the South Jakarta Administrative City Government is optimising the 2.8-hectare land on Jalan Rengas, RT 05/011, Bintaro Ward, Pesanggrahan Subdistrict, for public service facilities and flood control. The land, with a depth of five metres, is also being connected from two nearby rivers, namely Kali Rengas and Kali Uangan. Furthermore, the city government is adding jogging paths and other supporting facilities in the reservoir area.
