Jakarta – The South Jakarta Metro Police have established comprehensive security preparations for the mudik (homecoming) season through Operation Ketupat Jaya 2026, aimed at ensuring safety, efficiency, security, and public comfort during Eid al-Fitr celebrations.

“We are entering the major Eid al-Fitr period, and we wish to inform the public that Operation Ketupat Jaya 2026 is a humanitarian operation with its primary focus on safety, smooth traffic flow, security, and public comfort,” said Brigadier I Putu Yuni Setiawan, Chief of South Jakarta Metro Police, when confirmed in Jakarta on Friday.

The police have undertaken several preparations, including data-driven mapping of congestion-prone areas, accident hotspots, and crime locations based on field dynamics. The department has also strengthened security posts, service posts, and integrated checkpoints along major routes, terminals, train stations, ports, airports, rest areas, and crowded public spaces.

“We have also prepared traffic management and engineering measures that are situational in nature, including diversion of traffic flow, restrictions on certain vehicles at specific times, contraflow operations, and one-way traffic when necessary, coordinated across different sectors and institutions,” said Yuni. Contraflow involves reversing direction on one or two lanes to ease congestion, whilst one-way operations convert two-way roads into single-direction traffic.

Patrol and security operations will be deployed in residential areas, particularly when homes are vacant during the mudik period. Patrols will also be conducted at centres of public activity.

“Here, we request the assistance of our media colleagues. Let us serve as good guides for the public. We will communicate traffic safety warnings, route information, and other matters the public should know. Most importantly, help ensure that information circulating remains accurate, does not cause panic, and does not compromise security,” stated Yuni.

The South Jakarta Metro Police previously established 10 monitoring posts to anticipate Sahur on the Road (SOTR) activities during this year’s Ramadan period. The department has also reactivated Community Security Unit (Satkamling) posts during Ramadan 1447 Hijriah to maintain security and order in their respective areas.

These security operations involve various community elements, including online motorcycle taxi drivers (ojol), community organisations (ormas), and community security and order awareness groups (Pokdar Kamtibmas). The public has been reminded to exercise caution when leaving for mudik and when leaving homes unoccupied.
