South Jakarta Parks and City Forest Office Trims 25 Trees in Kebayoran Lama

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Green Squad of the South Jakarta Parks and City Forest Office (Sudin Tamhut) has carried out pruning on 25 trees at risk of falling in Kebayoran Lama sub-district.

“Pruning was conducted as a follow-up to community complaints and as part of the Rabu Menoping programme,” said Head of Sudin Tamhut South Jakarta, Herlina Merinda, in Jakarta on Wednesday.

She stated that the activity was based on community complaints, most of which were submitted through the JAKI application.

The pruning, she said, was carried out at several locations: nine trees in Pondok Pinang ward, nine trees in Grogol Utara ward, two trees in Kebayoran Lama Utara ward, and five trees in Cipulir ward.

“As many as 50 Green Squad personnel were deployed for this tree pruning,” Herlina said.

She mentioned that the types of trees pruned included angsana, sawo duren, petai cina, asam kranji, mahoni, karet kebo, beringin, and others.

“For today, the pruning is focused on the Kebayoran Lama sub-district. The personnel deployed come from all teams across the 10 sub-districts in South Jakarta,” Herlina stated.

“We continue to intensify tree maintenance, not only during the Rabu Menoping programme but also on other days,” Herlina added.

Meanwhile, one resident, Arifin Ilham (42), appreciated the tree pruning because it makes the environment safer and brighter.

“Before pruning, the road looked dark because the light was blocked. Now, it’s brighter and neater,” Arifin said.

The pruned trees were also deemed at risk of falling during extreme weather conditions or high rainfall due to their location along infrastructure access, such as waterways or road sides, and the trees’ conditions were already rotten, dry, and dead.

The pruning activity was carried out by field officers and the rapid response team across all sub-districts in South Jakarta. This pruning aims to ensure residents’ safety and maintain the city’s aesthetics.
