South Jakarta Mayor urges scouts to make real contributions to society

South Jakarta Administrative Mayor Syafrin Liputo has urged the Scout Movement to be present in providing solutions and real contributions to society.

“This theme is highly relevant to the current challenges of national development. The Scout Movement must not only be an organisation active in ceremonial activities, but must be able to be present in providing solutions and real contributions to society,” said Syafrin during the 65th Scout Day commemoration with the theme “Strengthening Organisational Steps to Support Food Self-Sufficiency Towards Golden Indonesia 2045” in the courtyard of the South Jakarta Mayor’s Office on Friday.

He said food self-sufficiency is not merely an agricultural issue, but also concerns education, skills, technological innovation, entrepreneurship, and the environment, thus requiring community self-reliance.

As Chairman of the Branch Advisory Council (Mabicab), Syafrin views the Scout Movement not merely as an extracurricular organisation, but as a strategic partner of the regional government in overseeing priority development programmes in South Jakarta.

“I also emphasise that the South Jakarta Branch Quarter (Kwarcab) should continue to properly organise the Sub-district Quarter and Front Groups. All municipal agencies that oversee Special Units (Saka) should immediately form their management structures and coordinate with Kwarcab in order to develop focused, directed, and measurable skills or special proficiency programmes,” said Syafrin.

Meanwhile, Chairman of the South Jakarta Scout Movement Branch Quarter (Kwarcab) Sarwoko said that 1,250 Penggalang members attended the 65th Scout Day commemoration at the South Jakarta city level.

In addition, merit badges from the National Scout Movement Quarter were also awarded to a number of adult Scout Movement members who have served and contributed, both in terms of energy, thought, and other aspects.

“Character education and moral conduct are the main things that must be instilled. I am confident that scouting guidance strongly emphasises moral conduct that can be emulated by children. This is what will provide a positive influence on their other friends,” said Syafrin.

On that occasion, Syafrin also presented a number of merit badges, including the Melati Badge, Darma Bakti Badge, and Karya Bakti Badge.
