South Jakarta KPKP Sub-District Ensures Environmentally Friendly Eid al-Adha Sacrifice Practices
South Jakarta KPKP Sub-District has ensured that Eid al-Adha sacrificial slaughter is conducted in an environmentally friendly manner through various measures.
“During sacrificial slaughter, we urge organisers to prepare designated pits or containers for blood and offal waste,” said Ridho S Yudyantoro, Head of South Jakarta KPKP Sub-District, when contacted on Tuesday in Jakarta.
He added that there is currently a ban on disposing of blood and offal into public drainage channels (gutters).
He explained that blood and offal from sacrificial animals can pollute waterways if disposed of improperly.
Therefore, the sub-district is urging Eid committees to prepare collection points for blood and offal to prevent environmental contamination.
“Blood and offal can clog public drains and cause siltation,” Ridho said.
“Sacrificial slaughter typically takes place at mosques, musollahs, or residential yards,” Ridho noted.
Additionally, Eid committees are requested to use eco-friendly packaging for distributing sacrificial meat.
He suggested using biodegradable materials such as bamboo baskets (besek), pandan leaf containers (bongsang), or biodegradable plastic for meat packaging.
“Using environmentally friendly and recyclable containers for sacrificial meat, such as bamboo or pandan leaf baskets, banana leaves, and similar materials,” Ridho stated.
Furthermore, he added that meat and offal waste can be repurposed to reduce landfill burden.
“Meat and offal waste should be buried. Organs can also be used as maggot feed,” Ridho explained.
Meanwhile, he mentioned that the South Jakarta KPKP Sub-District provides basic equipment support to Eid committees, including tarps and knives.
