South Jakarta Interior Ministry Office Catches Fire, 75 Firefighters Deployed to Extinguish Blaze

A fire struck the office of the Directorate General of Village Governance, Ministry of Home Affairs, on Jalan Raya Pasar Minggu, South Jakarta, on Monday (20/4/2026). It is suspected that the fire originated from the storage room on the ground floor of the building. The Head of the Information Centre of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Benny Irwan, stated that the fire occurred in Building D of the Directorate General of Village Governance. Benny explained that the fire began when an employee saw smoke from inside the storage room in the building. “It started around 13:30 when one of our employees saw smoke and fire behind Building D. Behind Building D is actually a storage area where items are kept. It started there,” he said in Jakarta on Monday. After spotting the fire, the employee immediately contacted the fire department for extinguishing efforts. At least 10 fire trucks were deployed to the location for firefighting. According to him, the fire was successfully extinguished since 15:00 WIB. “So at 15:00 earlier, it was already out. They even started the cooling process,” he said.
