Jakarta – The South Jakarta Municipal Government plans to expand Tebet Public Hospital (RSUD Tebet) to improve patient services and maximise healthcare delivery capacity.

“Among the key issues requiring attention, the first is the lack of adequate space. Second, the land area here is quite limited, at only around 1,000 square metres, whilst the number of patients seeking treatment is very large,” said South Jakarta Mayor Muhammad Anwar during an inspection of RSUD Tebet on Tuesday.

Anwar stated that the administration plans to undertake an expansion, as the current situation is no longer viable given the patient and visitor numbers attending the hospital daily.

According to available information, RSUD Tebet receives approximately 400 to 500 outpatient visits each day, a figure that does not include inpatient cases.

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has prioritised healthcare as one of the community’s basic needs. Consequently, Anwar expressed hope that the findings from this inspection could be escalated to the governor for implementation.

“Hopefully, we can communicate this to the governor so that it can be acted upon promptly, considering the health needs of the Tebet community are very high,” he said.

Meanwhile, RSUD Tebet Head Juliet Pieter expressed gratitude for the mayor’s visit to directly observe and understand the hospital’s land limitations.

“We urgently need additional space, but finding additional land or relocating within the Tebet area is currently quite difficult,” she said.

Pieter appealed for her concerns to be conveyed to Jakarta’s governor so that RSUD Tebet could be given the opportunity to undertake major renovation work.

“The goal is for patients to feel more comfortable whilst waiting and during treatment,” she added.
