South Jakarta Environmental Agency Raids Illegal Dumpers in Jagakarsa
South Jakarta Environmental Sub-District Office conducted a raid against illegal waste dumpers in the Lenteng Agung Road area of Jagakarsa sub-district. “The operation was carried out to enforce Jakarta Regional Regulation No. 3 of 2013, Article 130 on Waste Management,” said Henriko, Head of the Supervision and Legal Compliance Section of South Jakarta’s Environmental Sub-District Office, in a statement on Sunday. Individuals found guilty of illegally dumping waste in public areas such as roads, parks, or drainage channels may face administrative penalties of up to Rp500,000. All fines collected will be deposited into the regional treasury. Henriko explained that the enforcement operation aims to improve public discipline in maintaining environmental cleanliness, particularly in South Jakarta where illegal dumping remains prevalent. In addition to enforcement, officers also provided direct education to residents on the importance of proper waste disposal and the negative environmental impacts of littering. “Officers also educate the public to be more mindful of environmental cleanliness and avoid repeating such violations,” he added. All administrative fines from these violations will be deposited into the regional treasury in accordance with applicable regulations. The South Jakarta Environmental Sub-District Office hopes that combined enforcement and education efforts will raise public awareness of environmental cleanliness. A clean and well-managed environment is expected to improve residents’ quality of life and reduce pollution and health risks caused by waste. Similar operations will be conducted periodically at known hotspots for illegal dumping across South Jakarta. “We hope residents will become more conscious of disposing waste properly to maintain a clean, orderly, and comfortable environment,” he said.
