Jakarta — The South Jakarta Environmental Agency (Sudin LH Jaksel) has distributed 2,300 jumbo biopore pits to help residents sort waste and reduce reliance on sending waste to Bantargebang Integrated Waste Disposal Facility (TPST Bantargebang). ‘From that total, Sudin LH has actually distributed 2,300 pits from 2,400 jumbo biopore pits available,’ said Dedy Setiono, head of the South Jakarta Environmental Agency, when contacted in Jakarta on Thursday. He said the agency targets completing the distribution of all 2,400 biopore pits by early June. The creation of jumbo biopore holes aims to curb household organic waste generation, reducing dependence on waste transport to TPST Bantargebang. ‘This is Governor’s Instruction (Ingub) No. 5 of 2026, relating to the policy issued by the Jakarta Provincial Government on source-based waste sorting and processing,’ he said. In addition to jumbo biopore holes and TEBA modern facilities, the agency is also intensifying outreach on sorting waste from dining tables, targeting residents, lurah, camat, and other stakeholders. ‘We hope that the work of the public and the government in waste management can proceed well. So that the cessation of general waste disposal to TPST Bantargebang on 1 August 2026 can be achieved easily,’ he added. By mid-May 2026, 345 jumbo biopore holes and 40 TEBA modern units had been installed in residential areas and government offices. The breakdown of locations is: Cilandak 87 sites; Jagakarsa 42; Kebayoran Baru 38; Kebayoran Lama 23; Mampang Prapatan 42; Pancoran 46; Pasar Minggu 31; Pesanggrahan 24; Setiabudi 21; Tebet 31.
