The South Jakarta Environment Sub-agency (Sudin LH) has stressed that anyone caught dumping rubbish carelessly can be subject to an administrative fine of Rp500,000. “Every person proven to have dumped rubbish carelessly in public spaces, such as roads, parks, or waterways, can be subject to an administrative sanction in the form of a maximum fine of Rp500,000,” said Henriko, Head of the Supervision and Legal Compliance Section of the South Jakarta Environment Sub-agency, in Jakarta on Thursday. He stated that the fine is a form of enforcement of DKI Jakarta Regional Regulation Number 3 of 2013 concerning Waste Management, specifically Article 130. The fine, he continued, is a follow-up to residents’ concerns about the environment becoming dirty due to the prevalence of irresponsible individuals dumping rubbish carelessly. “All proceeds from fines are deposited into the regional treasury. We hope this firm action will create a deterrent effect so that offenders do not repeat their actions,” Henriko said. After paying the fine, he noted, violators will also receive a notification via the WhatsApp application as proof that the fine has been deposited into the regional treasury. “Everything is recorded transparently. Violators will know that the fine money they paid has been deposited into the regional treasury,” Henriko explained. This effort is expected to increase public awareness to always dispose of rubbish in its proper place and to keep the environment clean and healthy. “We invite the entire community to jointly maintain environmental cleanliness as a shared responsibility in order to realise a clean, orderly, and comfortable Jakarta,” Henriko stated. Meanwhile, a local resident, Gufron, appreciated the efforts of the South Jakarta Environment Sub-agency in taking action against perpetrators of illegal dumping. He hopes that enforcement can continue intensively because offenders often take advantage of lapses in officer vigilance to dump rubbish at night. “Usually, they dump rubbish in the middle of the night. The rubbish is simply placed near poles or on the roadside, causing unpleasant odours and making the environment look slum-like,” Gufron explained. Previously, the South Jakarta Environment Sub-agency conducted a sting operation against eight perpetrators who were dumping rubbish carelessly on Jalan Sultan Iskandar Muda, Kebayoran Lama Selatan Urban Village, Kebayoran Lama District. In that operation, the police and the local urban village took action against eight perpetrators caught dumping rubbish carelessly.
