South Jakarta’s Water Resources Sub-Department (SDA Jaksel) is targeting the dredging of 6,842 cubic metres (m³) of mud from the Krukut River and drains along Jalan Bendungan Udik, RW 04, Karet Semanggi Ward, Setiabudi Sub-District, to anticipate waste accumulation and flooding.

“Dredging of the Krukut River in Karet Semanggi Ward is targeted to remove 6,842 cubic metres of sediment mud and waste,” said the Head of South Jakarta’s Water Resources Sub-Department, Santo, when contacted in Jakarta on Monday.

Santo revealed that for the community work dredging activity, his team is deploying two amphibious excavator units and 10 dump truck units.

The dredging is targeted to be completed by 10 August 2026, or after four months of operation.

“Furthermore, to address ponding in this area, we are also optimising the presence of water gates, which will later be equipped with pumps,” Santo stated.

The South Jakarta Administrative City Government (Pemkot Jaksel) conducted a large-scale community work event on Sunday (12/4) last week.

South Jakarta Mayor Muhammad Anwar said the community work was carried out to address ponding in the area, which can reach heights of up to 70 centimetres.

“At minimum, if ponding does occur, it will be able to recede quickly. Efforts to address ponding will continue to be optimised before this year’s rainy season,” he said.

Therefore, Anwar hopes that this activity will provide motivation for the community, government, private sector, business actors, and all South Jakarta residents to consistently ensure that their surrounding environment remains clean and free from waste and flooding.

“We must maintain it together; we from the government will not stop providing education to residents so that they do not dispose of waste along riverbanks,” he added.
