South Jakarta District Court to Deliver Pre-trial Verdict for Silmy Karim on Tuesday Afternoon
The South Jakarta District Court will hold the pre-trial verdict hearing for former Deputy Minister of Immigration and Correctional Services, Silmy Karim, against the Corruption Eraduation Commission (KPK) on Tuesday afternoon.
The hearing will decide on the legality of Silmy Karim’s designation as a suspect and the seizure of assets in a case involving the alleged extortion of foreign national (WNA) stay permits.
“The pre-trial verdict hearing for Silmy Karim is scheduled for 4:00 PM WIB,” said Halida Rahardhini, Spokesperson for the South Jakarta District Court, when contacted in Jakarta on Tuesday.
Silmy Karim is challenging 15 documents issued by the KPK against him. These include investigation orders (sprindik) numbered Sprin.Dik/27/DIK.00/01/06/2026 and Sprin.Dik/27.1/DIK.00/01/06/2026, both dated 3 June 2026.
Additionally, Silmy is contesting the notification of his suspect status, detention orders, detention notifications, and the official reports regarding his detention at the KPK Detention Centre (Rutan).
He is also challenging the seizure report dated 3 June 2026, the document deposit receipt, search reports, the seizure report dated 5 June 2026, and the search report conducted at Jl. Balitung I No. 25, Selong, Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta on 5 June 2026.
In his lawsuit, he disputes the two investigation orders dated 3 June 2026, claiming they lack legal basis, and is requesting the judge to order the KPK to cease the investigation.
Furthermore, Silmy is requesting that the KPK release him from detention following the verdict. He also demands that the KPK immediately return the seized evidence.
Previously, the KPK seized assets totalling Rp150 billion in the alleged extortion case involving foreign national stay permits involving the former Deputy Minister. The assets include movable and immovable property, vehicles, land, and buildings.
The extortion case related to limited stay permits for foreign nationals allegedly occurred since Silmy Karim served as the Director General of Immigration in 2023.
The KPK suspects that the total funds collected in this case reach Rp145.5 billion, with allegations that Silmy received a weekly share of Rp100 million.
