South Jakarta Disaster Agency Records Flood Levels in Cipulir Reaching 140 cm
The South Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) recorded flood water levels in Cipulir subdistrict, Kebayoran Lama, reaching 140 centimetres as of 06.00 Western Indonesian Time (WIB).
“At Jalan Suwardi, RT 08/RW 10, Cipulir subdistrict, Kebayoran Lama district, South Jakarta, the water level reached 140 cm,” said South Jakarta BPBD Task Force Chief Sukendar when contacted in Jakarta on Friday.
He said the flooding was caused by the overflowing Pesanggrahan River, which was at Alert Level 3 status.
Sustained rainfall of moderate to heavy intensity, he said, caused the water discharge of the Pesanggrahan River to increase and overflow into residential areas.
Another area where flood levels exceeded 100 cm was Jalan Gang Koba, RT 02, 03, 04, RW 06, North Cipete subdistrict, Kebayoran Baru district, South Jakarta.
At 06.00 WIB, the water level reached 110 cm, caused by high-intensity rainfall that resulted in inundation and flooding across RT 02, 03, and 04, as well as RW 06.
Flooding also struck Jalan NIS, RT 03/RW 03, East Cilandak subdistrict, Pasar Minggu district, South Jakarta, with water levels of 120 cm at 06.00 WIB.
The cause of flooding in that area was heavy upstream rainfall, which caused the Krukut River to overflow and flood Jalan NIS.
“There were no casualties from the flooding incidents,” Sukendar said.
