The South Jakarta City Government will take action against the unauthorised demolition of sidewalks in the Pondok Indah area, along with the replacement of materials from paving blocks or concrete blocks to lightweight bricks (hebel). “I will soon follow up on this,” said Deputy Mayor of South Jakarta, Ali Murtadho, when contacted by Kompas.com on Tuesday (31/3/2026). Ali emphasised that every infrastructure project must follow applicable technical standards and cannot be done haphazardly. He added that he will coordinate with technical regional work units (UKPD), particularly the Road Infrastructure Sub-Directorate, as well as the landowners involved. Previously, the paving block or concrete block sidewalks on Jalan Metro Pondok Indah, Kebayoran Lama, were replaced with hebel after being demolished without permission. Kompas.com observations at the site showed that the sidewalk condition appeared to have just been installed with concrete blocks that were not uniform in installation direction. Additionally, the size of the blocks used appeared quite large and thick, resembling lightweight bricks (hebel), not like standard paving blocks. The surface also looked flat with fairly wide joints in some parts. On the left side of the sidewalk, there was a corrugated iron fence and a long wooden beam placed on top of the sidewalk. Some blocks also appeared uneven and slightly raised, giving the impression of imprecise installation. “The material used to replace the demolished paving is hebel,” explained Mustofa. Although the material is different, the sidewalk can still be used.
