South Jakarta City Government to pay Rp50 million in compensation to families of fallen-tree victims

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The South Jakarta City Government (Pemkot Jaksel) has provided Rp50 million in compensation to the family of the fatality caused by a fallen tree on Jalan Lenteng Agung Raya, Lenteng Agung Village, Jagakarsa Sub-district, South Jakarta. “We extend our condolences for this incident. In accordance with applicable regulations, the victims will receive a maximum compensation of Rp50 million,” said Herlina Merinda, Head of the Sub-District Office for Landscaping and City Forest of South Jakarta, in Jakarta, on Sunday. Herlina said regarding the fatalities in the incident, they have coordinated for further handling, including regarding compensation to the families of the victims. She added that at present joint officers had evacuated the fallen tree on Jalan Lenteng Agung Raya, Lenteng Agung Village, Jagakarsa Sub-district, South Jakarta. It was stated that the handling of the fallen tree, due to heavy rain accompanied by strong winds, had been carried out since early morning. Herlina explained that in the handling of the albizia tree with a diameter of around 150 centimetres, they deployed 15 Green Corps personnel. “We also deployed five large trucks to transport the remaining trunk, branches and leaves,” she said. Meanwhile, Sukendar, Head of the BPBD Task Force for South Jakarta Region, added that the large tree fell around 02:31 WIB. He said the victim was a motorcyclist who was then taken by health workers to Bhayangkara Brimob Hospital, Depok.
