South Jakarta Bina Marga Secures Dangling Cables on Jalan Widya Chandra VIII

The South Jakarta Bina Marga Sub-department has taken action to secure dangling utility cables on Jalan Widya Chandra VIII, Senayan, Kebayoran Baru, which posed a hazard to road users.

Head of the South Jakarta Bina Marga Sub-department, Rifki Rismal, stated that a resident reported the dangling cables had endangered motorists the previous night. “A resident reported to us that there were dangling cables which briefly disrupted motorists last night. This morning we immediately handled them together so they would no longer endanger road users,” Rifki said on Wednesday.

He explained that the utility cables were suspected to have been dangling and then snapped after being snagged by passing vehicles. To expedite the handling, the South Jakarta Bina Marga Sub-department deployed five personnel from the Yellow Troops utility task force along with a ladder truck. “During the handling process, we were also assisted by six Public Infrastructure and Facilities Handling (PPSU) officers,” he added.

Rifki urged the public to immediately report any dangling utility cables that could endanger safety. Reports can be made through the JAKI application or directly to the local authorities for swift follow-up. “Hopefully, the efforts we have made can provide safety and comfort to the community,” he said.

Meanwhile, a local resident named Sanusi recounted that a motorcyclist fell on Tuesday night due to the low-hanging cables. He noted that such incidents frequently occur because utility cables are often snagged and severed by large vehicles such as buses or concrete mixer trucks passing through the area. “We hope that monitoring of utility cables can be carried out routinely so that incidents like this do not happen again,” he said.
