A 16-year-old student from SMAN 6 Jakarta, identified by the initials NAEP, died in an accident on Jalan Leuser in South Jakarta. She fell from a motorcycle that became entangled in a steel cable. The South Jakarta Bina Marga Agency’s Rifki Rismal confirmed that the cable which caused the accident belongs to the state electricity company. “The (electricity company) team is already at the location to tidy it up,” Rifki said on Thursday (18/6), as reported by Antara on Saturday (20/6).

According to the police report, the accident occurred on Thursday (18/6) morning at 5.30 a.m. Western Indonesia Time. The student was riding pillion on a motorcycle driven by her father. While passing along Jalan Leuser in South Jakarta, the motorcycle’s handlebars struck a steel cable that was hanging down. The victim then fell and was run over by a passing school bus. The accident case is now being handled by the South Jakarta Metro Police.

The Education Agency for Region II of South Jakarta has assisted the family of the deceased Year 10 student from SMAN 6 Jakarta in facilitating the funeral. “We are accompanying the family, facilitating vehicles for the family and children who will go to the funeral home,” said Sarwoko, Head of the Education Agency for Region II of South Jakarta. The South Jakarta City Administration prepared three school buses to transport teachers and students to the funeral home in Tangerang, Banten. The South Jakarta City Administration and its staff expressed their deepest condolences and prayed for the best for all parties affected by the incident.
