South Jakarta administration urges all parties to collaborate in preventing street brawls
The South Jakarta City Government (Pemkot Jaksel) is urging all parties to collaborate to prevent street brawls in order to keep the area conducive.
“The phenomenon of street brawls begins with an identity crisis experienced by teenagers, which is then exacerbated by the influence of globalisation and digitalisation through social media. Social media, which was originally created as a communication tool, has now turned into a double-edged sword,” said South Jakarta Deputy Mayor Firmanuddin Ibrahim at the Ngopi Cetar Forum in Jakarta on Friday.
According to him, the phenomenon of street brawls in Jakarta is becoming increasingly alarming. The impact is not only physical injury or loss of life, but can also threaten the future of the younger generation, cause trauma, and erode the nation’s moral values.
Firmanuddin explained that early detection efforts through digital media will not run optimally without support and resilience from the immediate environment.
Therefore, the Jaga Jakarta movement is considered important to build solid regional resilience, starting from the family level.
Prevention of street brawls, he said, must begin at home through attentive parenting and supervision of children’s use of devices.
“I appeal to the hearts of parents because this smallest environment is the first fortress for their future,” said Firmanuddin.
On the other hand, Firmanuddin said the Ngopi Cetar Forum discussed efforts to prevent street brawls from an early stage, particularly in South Jakarta.
As such, it is hoped that the forum will not merely be a ceremonial activity, but also a discussion space to identify problems and find solutions to potential street brawls on the ground.
“I hope this Ngopi Cetar Forum becomes a lively discussion space. Convey the real obstacles on the ground and let us map together the vulnerable areas, particularly in Pancoran, so that we can produce fast and precise solutions that can be implemented,” said Firmanuddin.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Vigilance Subgroup of the South Jakarta National Unity and Political Agency (Kesbangpol) Shindy Pranata Umar added that the activity aims to increase public knowledge and understanding regarding efforts to prevent street brawls in South Jakarta, particularly in Pancoran District.
“We want to create a safe, conducive environment that is free from street brawls, both between residents and between students, through synergy and the active role of all elements of society as well as neighbourhood administrators,” said Shindy.
The forum was attended by 50 participants involving city-level forum elements, Duta Purna Paskibraka Indonesia, community institution forums, and neighbourhood administrators representing all of Pancoran District.
