South Jakarta Administration to Revitalise Pasar Minggu for Integration

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The South Jakarta Administrative City Government (Pemkot Jaksel) is carrying out the revitalisation of Pasar Minggu to create an integrated area with proper waste management for the public’s comfort.

“We conducted an inspection of the Pasar Minggu area, and based on that inspection, the condition of the market is indeed extremely urgent for revitalisation,” said the Mayor of South Jakarta, Syafrin Liputo, when met at Pasar Minggu, Jakarta, on Monday.

Syafrin said the focus of the inspection was the plan to integrate the market area and the lokasi binaan (lokbin), a designated trading area, including waste management at the site.

Besides the market, the lokbin, which serves as a hub of activity for micro, small and medium enterprises (UMKM), will also be revitalised.

According to him, the arrangement of the lokbin needs to be carried out thoroughly and integrated with the market area so that the activities of traders and shoppers become easier and more comfortable.

“We are not only looking at it from the perspective of PD Pasar Jaya or the UMKM lokbin separately, but everything must be integrated as a whole so that the activities of traders and buyers are easier,” he said.

His side has already held discussions with the market management regarding the revitalisation process, which has now entered the memorandum of understanding (MoU) stage.

He hopes that once the MoU process is completed, it can be followed up immediately with the drafting of a comprehensive revitalisation plan.

Meanwhile, for the arrangement of the lokbin, Syafrin said his side will coordinate with the DKI Jakarta Provincial Industry, Trade, Cooperatives, Small and Medium Enterprises Agency (PPKUKM). The arrangement will cover various activity zones, from the wet market, dry market and culinary market to the parking area.

“The aim is for people visiting the lokbin to have a good and comfortable experience when moving around. That way, residents will be encouraged to go directly into the market and will no longer shop on the pavements, which are currently occupied by street vendors,” he said.
